Post Nasal Drip Help?

Question by stella: Post Nasal Drip Help?
Hi, I’ve had post nasal drip for about 1yr and a half now, I’ve seen 2 ENT physicians and they are still puzzled on why i still have this problem…I had a camera stuck up my nose and one of the physicians said my nasal linning is flamed. My nose is never blocked i can breath through both nose it’s usually at the far back where it drips (that’s the most puzzling for me) i don’t snore…. on a good day i could spit about 5 times a day on a bad day its like every 3 min’s. I’ve tried the following for at least a month .

1.Used nasal irrigation
2.Allergy medication (neoclartin n some others)
3.Herbal Remedies such as (goldenseal, tinctures and some others)
4.Drink only fruit juices
5.Ive used every antihistamines, decongestants, nasal steroids in london i could find…any other suggestion would be great..

i just went to the doctor for the same thing. i kept using allergy meds, but none of them were working. come to find out, i am not allergic to anything. my nose tissue was inflamed so bad i about could not breathe anymore through my nose. my diagnosis is non-allergy rhinitis. this means i have a “sensitive nose”. different things can trigger a stuffy nose reaction like perfume, pollen, change in temp, etc. my doctor gave me a
nasal rinse. you can find it at this website: http://www.neilmed.com/usa/index.php suppose to do that 2 times a day. then use two nasal sprays prescriptions to decrease the inflammation. nasonex is one of them. i was on steroids for a week to reduce the swelling in my nose. good luck.

  1. Ugh, I know how you feel. Post nasal drip combined with my severe asthma is nasty! I would recommend going to a professional allergist, as I did. They can really diagnose the problem. Chances are, it is not just your nose, but perhaps an unknown allergen you have a constant reaction to. (I found out it was the thin fibers in some of my blankets and sweaters!) They can also give you trials of different specific symptom allergy medicine, and maybe you need a combination. Although I am not a doctor, from experience I have learned that most nasal sprays do not prevent post nasal drip. Most sprays are for dry/inflamed/stuffy noses. You probably need a strong allergy medicine. I use Xyzal daily for medication, and it prevents runny noses, which leads to post nasal drip (mucus dripping down throat from nose). The best home remedy is to BLOW, because as long as you blow a runny nose, you reduce chances of it getting backed up and dripping down your throat. Whatever you do, do not “sniff” a runny nose. This just creates a vacuum to create post nasal drip. I hope this helps you out, and good luck!
